The Bear and the PianoThe Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I soak in the rays of the sun, empowered by the hope, the vision, and dreams that dance along its beams, daring me to take on the world today. I can’t explain this feeling but just the same way I am energized by a bright, beautiful day, the warmth and beauty of David Litchfield’s illustrations in The Bear and the Piano, especially the gorgeous sunrays, warms my heart. Then, of course, there’s the story. A bear finds a “strange thing” in the forest and soon finds a joy he had not yet known through the keys of a piano. Day after day he plays and gets so much better, capturing the attention of all the bears and some unexpected visitors. When the bear leaves to pursue his dreams, he worries about what he’s leaving behind but in the end, learns that friendship can endure the span of space and time. It is my honor to be able to share this gem with my students.
